Seekers Welcomed!
You
may be one of the people who regularly visit these pages
on our True
Discipleship website. Or
this may be the first time you have come to our site to
examine our contents. We
welcome you! The
fact that you have come must indicate some degree of interest
in spiritual things. You
may even want to learn about God, about the Lord Jesus
Christ, or about the Word of God.
God’s
Word, the Bible, says that God has revealed Himself in
nature and in His providential working in the world so
that people might come to truly know God our creator. Paul
says that this created order is observable to people so “that
they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him
and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us” (Acts
17:27; see vv. 24-31).

We
might also notice a seeker by the name of Cornelius. Peter
said to him, “I most certainly understand now that God
is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the
man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to
Him” (Acts 10:34-35). God,
in love, is interested in you, far more than you can imagine!
Although
nature or the created order can tell us something about
God’s power and wisdom, we must seek God’s specially revealed
written Word in order to know all about Him and His truth. The
Bible will tell you God’s will for your life and eternity! You
may reply, “But how can I know the truth of God when there
are so many different religions in the world? I’m
confused about the countless sects and churches in my own
community. I
just don’t know what to do!”
We
agree that this is a confusing and evil situation. God
never intended it this way. Consider
the various religions you’ve heard about.
There
is Buddhism, but this religion doesn’t even believe in
a personal God, thus we know it can’t be true. Your
own conscience tells you that there is a God to whom we
must give account. There
is also Hinduism, but this religion is polytheistic, believing
in three chief “gods” and more than 300 million lesser “gods”! We
know that this can’t be true; besides, this religion is
based on fantasy rather than solid history. You’ve
also heard about Islam, a religion that is spreading around
the world. While
this religion is monotheistic, which is good, we know that
it can’t be true since it is based on fiction and fantasy,
as a reading of the Koran will tell you. Besides,
the Bible tells us if any prophet or teacher says something
different from what God has already revealed, it definitely
must be false.
What
about Catholicism, another world religion? We
know that we are only to pray to and worship God, not any
human being. But
intrinsic to Roman Catholicism and the Orthodox Churches
is prayer to Mary, whom they call “The Queen of Heaven.” Also,
we know that our beliefs and life must rest on God’s
Word, not on human traditions. We
must seek for God’s truth elsewhere. What
do we to think of the thousands of Protestant sects that
cover the earth? We
can only know the truth about them by examining their
doctrines, beliefs, practices, organization, and history
with the
final authority—the truth of God’s own inspired, authoritative,
inerrant written Word.
